Kochi is a city in the coastal state of Kerala in southwestern India. It has been a port since 1341.

Known as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea", Kochi has been an important spice trading center on the west coast of India since the 14th century and has maintained a trade network with Arab traders since pre-Islamic times. The Greeks (Greeks and Romans), Jews, Syrians and Chinese have been trading since ancient times.
